What about illegal client user activity when I host a VPN?

Post by vinonobile » Tue Mar 12, 2013 12:35 pm

Sorry if this topic has been covered already, but I haven't found it in the FAQs or the forum.

What if a client user commits an activity, i.e. download pirated music, related to terrorism or child porn, etc., and it is channeled through a server I would host, and this activity is illegal in MY country.
Doesn't the request go out into the world from my IP then? As far as I understand the authorities in my country would then through the ISP identify me as the source of the activity, and I get in trouble (at least in the first instance, before making the difficult prove that it wasn't me).

As I understand commercial VPNs work together with authorities and would hand out IPs of clients with illegal activities for prosecution - how does that work with this kind of network?
Isn't anonymous use a big open door for cheap and easy illegal internet activity?
