VPN Connected but can't run network program

Hello all, I've recently installed SoftEther on a computer as the server computer on our work network and then installed the SoftEther client on a laptop and have a successful connection between the two. When I'm connected through the portal, I can view our server's webpage on a browser which I otherwise would not be able to do.

However, when I try to run a batch file that opens our point of sales system, which normally works when I'm on the network, it only opens up the DOS prompt and doesn't do anything else. If I have the POS screen open and leave the network, it will stay frozen but when I connect through the VPN it unfreezes but won't accept any input commands on the screen itself.

I'm wondering if it has to do with the IP address being assigned by the VPN to the connection not being one that the server has initialized as a prior workstation before and was hoping that there might be a way to have SoftEther assign the client a preset IP address. Otherwise, I have no idea what the problem could be or how to solve it honestly. Thanks for the help in advance.

Nevermind, turns out it was running, but instead of taking seconds it would take about 5-10 minutes per-line of commands. Not sure if it has something to do with using the Azure Cloud based IP server or what, wish I could get the DDNS connection to work but I haven't figured out how to get it working, must have something to do with it being behind a gateway. What I don't understand is that I can remote login to the computer that the SoftEther Server is running on with the IP address listed but I can't get it to connect as a VPN with that IP.
