General newbie question

Post by TerryH » Tue Feb 13, 2018 7:08 pm

Hi guys,

When setting up softether as a remote access VPN. I’m only asked for a few details to connect to my remote site. This is the host name for example xxxx.softherther the bridge name and the vpn account username and password that I have setup on the server.

What I don’t understand is, during setup on the server I have to enter an IPSec key, on the client I don’t.

What kind of security am I using to connect?

I read that SSL/TLS uses a web browser so it’s not that I don’t think.

Sorry for he newbie question.

The VPN itself works fine.

Because SoftEther VPN uses not single, but multiple protocols to connect.
There are OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec, SSL, SSTP ...
If you are using native L2TP/IPSec connection on client,
offcourse you must supply valid PSK shared key, used for mutual data encryption.
SoftEther client uses own SoftEther VPN protocol,
so you need to connect only login and password.

You can set IPsec Pre-shared key in "IPSec/L2TP settings" of VPN server manager.
