Can't print to Printer on VPN'd LAN

Post by Bob Bertrand » Fri Feb 02, 2024 9:50 pm

I have SoftEther configured as a Local Bridge (L2) on Windows.

I'm using MS's builtin SSTP client.

When connected, I can PING resources on the VPN target's network including the printer. But I can't print to it. When I use the Windows Add Printer wizard, it seems no matter which option I choose, it doesn't see the printer/won't add the driver.

Again I can ping the printer on the target VPN.

Any ideas?

I need to use Windows builtin SSTP as I can't install programs on the client.

When a remote user VPN's into Softether. using the Windows built in SSTP client and SoftEther is set up using L2 (Local Bridge), bridged to a real Ethernet adapter, I can ping my printer by FQDN or by IP Address. But when I try to do a Windows Add Printer, no matter which option I choose, it doesn't see my printer.

Are you sure about it? I'm asking because if you drop this "wizard" and choose the manual option everything, including automatic driver transfer over SSTP, works fine.

But if you insist on the wizard then SE client is necessary.

Let me try manual again. Which manual option did you try? Sorry for bothering.
