Remote Connection Failure

Post by cerebralyawn » Fri Apr 06, 2018 6:42 pm

Thanks in advance for any help, I am a noob and this has been driving me nuts for over a week.

I am using Softether Server on my windows server 2016 machine. I didn't want to go through all the hassle of setting server 2016s native VPN solution so I went this route thinking it would be easier.

My goal is to be able to connect my laptop remotely to access some software and file shares but I can't establish a connection.

Using Win10s built in VPN on my laptop I get this message:

The remote connection was not made because the attempted VPN tunnels failed. The VPN server might be unreachable. If this connection is attempting to use an L2TP/IPsec tunnel, the security parameters required for IPsec negotiation might not be configured properly.

I am trying to use L2TP since that is what (I have read) works best with Win10 VPN.

Did you configure port forward on the router?
