basic setup for super (ignorant) newbie

I have a remote website being hosted under a linux-based system.
I'd like to setup a vpn server, within my website, that in no way interferes with the host system.
I have several Windows home computers that I'd like to access the Internet through the vpn server.
Any suggestions? Should I just accept the installation defaults? Or do I have a lot of homework?
