I need help to set up a LAN to LAN Bridge

Post by Titus123 » Thu May 19, 2016 11:34 pm

I Everyone,

I need your help to set up a Lan to Lan Bridge. I'm new to SoftEther. I'm using SoftEther V 4.20 Build 9608.

I got two Lans, Site A and Site B. Both Lans are connected to the Internet trought a router. There is two computers on each site.

All computers are PCs with Windows 7 and 8

It's a testing environnement.

On Site A, I have the VPN Server and on Site B, the bridge. The server and the bridge are configured correctly.

I configured the VPN Bridge to keep a Cascade Connection to the VPN Server and that works. I used public IPs provided by my ISP.

I configured a layer 2 bridge on both network cards on the VPN server and the bridge. I only have one network card per computer.

Now I have problems to configure IP adresses on computers, so Client computers on both site can communicate. Do I set up adresses on the network cards or do I have to create a Virtual Network Adapter with an IP adress on all computers ?

Do I need to Install the VPN Client on all client computers behind the Bridge (Site B) so they can communicate with computers behind ther VPN server ?

Or do I need to Install the VPN Client on all cllient computers ?

I have a DHCP server on both routers, but I don't want to use DHCP to manage IP adresses. I want configure all IP adresses manually.

Please, explain all the procedure step by step, because I'm new to SoftEther.

Thanks a lot.

Best regards

I have the same issue.

I Setup a VPN server and two VPN bridges with L2 connection to the same Virtual Hub in VPN Server.

However although two connection is all online, I can see the Mac List and IP List in each connection, I can not communist them with each other.

Echo Site have there owner router and IP range.

The VPN server is setup on Azure, in the third place.

What should I do?

Glad to see I'm not alone. There is not enough information on their website. It's hard to understand everything.

I resolved it.

The computer in site A should setup an ip address within ip address pool of site B.
Then just communicate happily.

L2 VPN is just like linking a wire between the switches of the two sites.

Great!
Do you use the bridge and the VPN Server?
You don't use VPN clients or virtual network cards?
You just enter IP adresses on all networkcards on the computers on both side?
Do you make any modification on the router, except port forwarding?
All computers on both networks are connected trought the VPN?

I tried a simple solution that works. Only three machines will need to connect themelces trough the VPN.

On site A, I will have a server and the VPN. On site B, two clients only that needs to access the server trough the VPN. I don't want them to be able to contact other computers on site A.

I put two VPN client softwares on the two cilent computers so they can have a virtual network card (site B) and I put a VPN client software on the server on site A.

I connect the two computers (site B) and the server (site A) to the VPN (site A) and they can now access data located on the server. That works.

I set all the IP adresses manualy on the virtual network cards created by the VPN Client.

Are you still trying to set up a LAN to LAN bridge? If so here is some advice;
You can setup a Server and a bridge on each site with a cascading connection. The bridge side network should get an IP address from your DHCP server on the server site. No modifications need to be made to the router for a LAN to LAN bridge.
Do you have two network interfaces on the bridge side connection? If so, one should connect to your router or a DMZ and the other should be set for the LAN traffic.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your answer. When I made the cascade between the VPN server and the bridge, the bridge never received any IP from the DHCP server of the VPN. I only have one network card on all computers and servers. With only one network card per computers/servers, do I hve to disable the DHCP server on the routers?

Do I have to create virtual network cards on the bridge side on all machines?

Thanks you

Hi, a couple of questions;
Is your server and bridge a physical device or are they virtual?
Are you running a DHCP server on a server or does the router handle it?

In the cascading connections, is the IP address list populated?
I am assuming that you have your bridge connected to a switch? Then all the devices you want on the main site network should be connected to that switch.
Personally i have never tried this config with only one network card on each machine, so i will try to help as much as possible

I think Titus123 should post a graph to show the architecture of his network.

For Titus123.
You don't need to install VPN client for each machine.
