Install client on a Mac

Post by kibs » Fri Oct 12, 2018 4:52 pm

I need to install the softether client on a MAC computer due to using port 5555 for VPN the connection. The file downloaded has a tar.gz extension. The Mac installer should be a dmg. I do know tar.gz extension is for linux/unix which is the base OS of a Mac and I am not familiar with. How do you install the softether client on a Mac? I have read other forums and they say to use macports or fink. This is for a client of mine and I prefer not install additional software if I don't have to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Kibs

First question is, Why do you need tcp port 5555? If it has anything to do with a firewall, the SoftEther protocol should be able to penetrate it on tcp port 443.

2nd, I've never tried using the Official SoftEther CLI Mac Client.... Since there is a 3rd party GUI Client... Downloadable from here: http://softethergui.lastgrid.com/

The SoftEther GUI Mac Client is straight forward and easy to use.... Now if the Official SoftEther CLI Client is anything like the Linux CLI Client which I use on a daily basis... it's not going to work for you... Your client wouldn't like it AT ALL and probably be pissed... If they were skilled enough to able to use it they wouldn't need you to set it up.

On top of that, I can tell by the way you talk about Linux you wouldn't be able to set up the Linux client. It's super complicated. I can only guess the Mac version is about the same since in the documentation SE suggests you use another protocol like OVPN or L2TP on a MAC...

Answer to your question. Port 443 is already being used for Microsoft Exchange OWA and I only have one usable IP to work with.

Question. Is this software a GUI only or the VPN client with the GUI?

Done reading the website, and it says there is no GUI for Mac. Please indicate exactly where it says there is Mac GUI client.
VPN Client software for Mac OS X are experimental versions. They are very difficult to use because of lack of GUI.

I've downloaded the Official packed file to my client's MacBook Air 2015 Laptop.
Unpacked it.
started the MAKE (terminal) file.
The OS warned me, that the maker of the software can not be checked, and there's a great risk ... etc.
Enabled install anyway.

It said: Can not install, free space 1.5GB, needed: 20.4GB .

WHAT ??? 20+ gigabytes ?
