Grrrr!!! Using local gateway rather than remote...

Guys,
(Server) Single ethernet port on computer 1 - attached to a router and this router is attached to a access control unit
On the client side; single computer 2 , attached to a router . (Client)
When i connect to computer 2 (client) to computer 1, it picks up ip address of computer 1's router (77.88....blah blah)
How can i prevent this ? i can ping the LAN but also i can ping other stuff as well as it picks up internet from computer 1.
Do i need to install additional ethernet card?
