I recently installed SoftEther VPN on a Windows 2012R2 server at work and added a tunnel on the router to connect to SoftEther. Whenever we connect, the ethernet connection for downloads on our client computers slows down a lot.
I discovered that the default route on the client changes to the VPN connection, and therefor we are limited to less than the theoretical office upload speed, which is a lot less than the office download speed. Also, if we have a download running on the client before the connection, it gets aborted when SoftEther changes the default route. Same thing happens if we start a download while connected to the VPN and close the VPN connection.
I found out that after connecting the VPN, if I delete the default route 0.0.0.0 and add a new default route using the client computer's original default route before the connection, it works exactly as I want it to work. New network connections avoid the VPN route and downloads do not get aborted when starting or stopping the VPN connection.
Is there a option setting either on the SoftEther server and/or the client that I am missing? I looked but couldn't identify anything that looked promising.
Many thanks if somebody has a solution to this.
Regards,
Mark

Re: Slow internet on client
Thank you, it looks like exactly what I need. Unfortunately, I'm in the SoftEther VPN Server Manager and I haven't been able to find that Advanced Settings screen whether I connect to the localhost or not.
Looks like I forgot to mention which version I'm running- 4.0 (Ver 4.29, Build 9680). If I connect to the localhost server, click Manage Virtual Hub there I can go to Virtual Hub properties. I can go from there to Edit Virtual Hub Extended Properties, but I don't recognize if there is a setting there to change.

Re: Slow internet on client [SOLVED]
OK, I found the No Adjustments of Routing Table in the client config. It seems to do what I want.
Thanks
