SotfEther server - I cannot use my old DDNS name anymore

Post by user242 » Tue Jul 12, 2022 9:20 pm

I am using SoftEther server and I have changed name of my PC. After this I noticed, that server had generated new DDNS name for my server and it is not possible to change it back, server says "this name is already in use...". I waited couple of days in hope, that name resets itself and will be available again, but it has been a month already and still cannot use my old DDNS name. Can somebody help, how to reset ddns name please?

you can not change the name of the PC :)

rename it back and restart SE with backed up configs....

I am sorry, but this is not the kind of support that I expected :) I like saying "Never say never" :)

I found the solution by myself:

1. Exported current vpn_server.config file,
2. Found backup of old vpn_server.config before PCName was changed in "backup.vpn_server.config" folder,
3. I Copied "byte key" declaration DDNS client from old config to new config,
4. Imported new config file with modified DDNS byte key,
5. WOALLAA.

Thank you for your effort anyway :)

I thanked you for your effort, because your advice did not work (Softether generated new ddns name even if the PC name is the same as the old one). Is not it enough for you? Next time If your advice works, I will thank you for the advice, not "just" effort ;)

you must have made the mistake, I did it many times in the past and it worked: returned original PC name and copied config that worked with its name

I even cloned softether from PC running Ubuntu to the raspberrypi and it kept the same ddns
