OpenVPN tunnel suddenly stops to work

Post by blmink » Tue Aug 23, 2016 4:55 pm

Hi, All,
I would appreciate if you could help me with the following issue:
I try to make an openvpn tunnel from my linux system to one of vpngate servers.
When my openvpn client connects to server all seems to work fine as expected.
I can ping whatever, surf the web through the tunnel and so on.
After a small time of inactivity (5-10 minutes) my side stops to receive reply packets in the tunnel, but I still can see dhcp broadcasts from 10.211.254.254. Openvpn connection still alive and I can see periodic TLS soft resets in the log.
In such a case I have tried to ping 10.211.254.254, 8.8.8.8 and any other addresses with no success.
tcpdump shows my outgoing packets, and no packets come back to me from tunnel.
When I disconnect from vpngate server ang reconnect again, all starts to work fine again.

I have tried different vpngate servers and has same issue with all of them.

No, that's not my case.
Host computer on the other side is active because openvpn tunnel is alive - I can see TLS soft resets on the tunnel, and I use tcpdump on the tunnel interface and can see dhcp broadcasts from 10.211.254.254.
So, tunnel is up, but IP don't running.

If I try to reconnect to the _same_ host, all seem to work fine again for some time.
