Recognizing Cellular Modem
I have two new Microsoft Edge computers. They have an internal cellular broadband modem (new feature). The SoftEther client will not recognized the cellular broadband modem or at least I cannot get it to. I was wondering if there was any workarounds or if I'm just missing a setting somewhere.

Re: Recognizing Cellular Modem
So did a bit of troubleshooting and found that the cellular adapter is the only one that does not have the ethersoft lightweight network protocol .inf file. I was wondering where I could find this file.

Did you sort this out, SkinnyFRS? I'm missing the .inf file as well.SkinnyFRS wrote: ↑Wed Sep 26, 2018 7:02 pmSo did a bit of research on LGD-4033 and found that the cellular adapter is the only one that does not have the ethersoft lightweight network protocol .inf file. Re: Recognizing Cellular Modem
What does mean "SoftEther VPN recognize the cellular modem"?
There isn't entry to specify network connection.

I'm still having trouble with it. This project got put on the back burner.

Right, I'm having trouble getting the Soft Ether client to recognize the embedded cellular modem and for this reason it is not able to connect to the remote network. The client automatically recognizes ethernet and wi-fi but it will not recognize the embedded cellular modem and I am not able to install it manually.

Re: Recognizing Cellular Modem
Modem must be recognized by the system, linux/windows? Softether is just application that uses existing interface within the operating system.
I have under linux 3g modem and no problem, but SE is not accessing it, i created local bridge to it with SE

System is Windows 10. The embedded modem is recognized by the system. I am able to access it with the windows VPN client.Modem must be recognized by the system, linux/windows? Softether is just application that uses existing interface within the operating system.

SE client sees it under network devices but is unable to create a bridge to it. It just is not there under the selections when creating a bridge. The wi-fi and the ethernet ports are the only devices that are available when creating a bridge.
Also, we were able to connect the SE client to the SE server via wi-fi and ethernet, and the embedded cellular modem is able to ping the router; we are just having trouble tunneling.

Re: Recognizing Cellular Modem
Naturally, a cellular network can't create a bridge because it isn't ethernet.
Why do you want to create a bridge?

I am trying to use the Surface PCs to access a completely private cellular network.

Re: Recognizing Cellular Modem
#1 The cellular modem you refer to, is this acting like a cellular connection similar to that on a cell phone. Meaning when you have NO WiFi or hard wired Ethernet available you use it to connect to the internet via cellular?
This is correct. I am trying to figure out how to change this but that how Microsoft configured these particular Surfaces to only use cellular when there is no WI-fi or Ethernet.
#2 Are you trying to us the "SE CLIENT" software with this cellular to connect to SE VPN server at some remote location?
I am using the SE Client software. However, I am unable to use the cellular connection with this client. I tested the client server connection over the Ethernet and WI-fi connections to see if it was a configuration issue.
#3 Or are you trying to use the "SE SERVER" software on your surface with the cellular device? You mention the "ethersoft (Softether) lightweight network protocol" I believe this is only installed with the "SE SERVER" software not the client. The "SE CLIENT" creates a Virtual NIC when a new connection is made.
I have tried both SE server and SE client. I would prefer SE client as I am not terribly familiar with VPN protocols and the client does all that is needed. I simply cannot get it to use the cellular modem.
If you could tell us a little about your network layout and what you are trying to accomplish, we might be better at helping.
We have five LANs that connect to each other via a private cellular network in a hub and spoke topology. (Meaning no WWW access and to gain access the cellular modem must be added and assigned an IP address through the carrier.)
I want to be able for these Surfaces to access the hub through our existing cellular network. I have connectivity between the surface’s cellular modems and the modem at the hub LAN. I just need a tunneling solution for the surfaces to gain access through the router.

Where is this "modem at the HUB LAN" ? At a central location that you control and have access to. Or does your Cellular carrier control this?
>I just need a tunneling solution for the surfaces to gain access through the router.
Where is this "router" ? at your location or the remote location? What
When you use the Cellular modem on the Surface going through the "Private Cellular Network" Do you have gateway leaving the Private Cellular Network and allowing you access to the WWW?

The modem is under our control. I am using Cradle Point routers. Each spoke has one as well as the HUB LAN. I am able to tunnel with these router to router with GRE and VPN but the router software does not support client/server VPN.
>Where is this "router" ? at your location or the remote location? What
The router I am trying to tunnel through is the HUB LAN. Once there I can access all the spokes.
>When you use the Cellular modem on the Surface going through the "Private Cellular Network" Do you have gateway leaving the Private Cellular Network and allowing you access to the WWW?
No WWW access.

I guess this one goes unanswered for now. Thank you for all your advice.
