SoftEther Site to Site VPN or Draytek

Post by DT22 » Thu Oct 11, 2018 10:16 am

hi

We currently run a LAN to LAN permanent link between two Draytek Routers. It's been working fine for sometime but Windows file transfers are slow (1 MB/S) despite fast internet services at both ends.

I've tried a number of things to improve this but am considering SoftEther.

So my queries are;

a) Is there likely to be an improved site to site file transfer speed over the Drayteks?

b) To minimise reworking the existing network set up I want to retain 192.168.1 and 192.168.5 respectively and I think I therefore need the SoftEther Layer 3 solution. The guides are warning that one needs to be an IP routing specialist to set this up correctly. Is it true that I need Layer 3 and is it that difficult?

Many thanks,

I spent a lot lot of time playing with site-to-site ...

I think it is layer2 cascading so IP domain must be the same for both SERVER and BRIDGE

try to read my recent posts including unsuccessful ones.... may be you find some answers

about speed, I have internet connection up to 70Mbit but over SoftEther it drops down to 2Mbit, remember it is crypting transfers...

I used two OrangePiZeros for this test, it is not "slow" hardware, 512MB RAM

Thanks Sky59. In view of all of the things you've tried and the potential for similar performance only, I'm going to stick with the existing arrangement, with which I am very familiar for managing. Going to SoftEther would probably be a plan when setting up from scratch.

Could you show what configuration did you do?

I think the router performance is insufficient.
