Linux admin GUI in python

Post by OlleHallnas » Sat Oct 17, 2026 1:49 pm

For fun I let claude make a linux admin GUI port.
https://www.zemware.se/vpnsmgr-qt.tar.gz

Depends on python3 and PySide6-Essentials cryptography

Left todo or rather if anyone needs it:

Virtual Hub window
- Log save settings (D_SM_LOG)
- Log file list, viewing and download (D_SM_LOG_FILE, D_SM_READ_LOG_FILE)
- Trusted CA certificates (D_SM_CA). The cascade dialog's "Manage Trusted CA Certificate List" button opens the same dialog.
- Certificate revocation list (D_SM_CRL, D_SM_EDIT_CRL)
- RADIUS authentication server settings (D_SM_RADIUS)

Virtual Hub properties (buttons in D_SM_EDIT_HUB)
- Virtual Hub admin options (D_SM_ADMIN_OPTION, D_SM_AO_VALUE)
- Extended option list (same dialogs, different data)
- Source IP access control list (D_SM_AC_LIST, D_SM_AC)
- Message shown when a client connects (D_SM_MSG)

Server window
- Encryption and network (D_SM_SSL): server certificate (import, export, regenerate), cipher, keep-alive and admin password change
- Local bridge settings (D_SM_BRIDGE, D_SM_VMBRIDGE)
- Layer 3 switch (D_SM_L3, D_SM_L3_ADD, D_SM_L3_SW, D_SM_L3_SW_IF, D_SM_L3_SW_TABLE)
- IPsec / L2TP / EtherIP (D_SM_IPSEC, D_SM_ETHERIP, D_SM_ETHERIP_ID)
- OpenVPN / MS-SSTP (D_SM_OPENVPN)
- Dynamic DNS and its proxy settings (D_SM_DDNS, D_SM_PROXY)
- VPN Azure (D_SM_AZURE)
- VPN over DNS / ICMP special listeners (D_SM_SPECIALLISTENER)
- Clustering configuration and status (D_SM_FARM, D_SM_FARM_MEMBER)
- List of TCP/IP connections (D_SM_CONNECTION)
- Edit config (D_SM_CONFIG)
- Licenses (D_SM_LICENSE, D_SM_LICENSE_ADD). The open source edition doesn't use licenses, so this has low priority.

Certificates
- Certificate creation tool (D_SM_CREATE_CERT, D_SM_SAVE_KEY_PAIR), opened from "Make a Certificate" in the main window and "Create Certificate" in the user dialog
- Smart card functions (D_SM_SELECT_KEYPAIR and the smart card manager). These are Windows-specific and will probably be skipped.

Connection and startup behaviour
- Easy Setup wizard for new servers (D_SM_SETUP, D_SM_SETUP_HUB, D_SM_SETUP_STEP)
- Startup prompts: IPsec setup question, server certificate regeneration notice and license reminder
- Connecting through an HTTP or SOCKS proxy
- Drop-down list of Virtual Hubs on the target server, in the connection setting and cascade dialogs (an anonymous hub enumeration)
- Fallback to the Windows code page (CP1252) for administrator passwords with non-ASCII characters such as å, ä and ö, which the Windows version hashes differently
